Slovakia

Slovakia is known for its numerous and impressive mountain ranges. Many of the country’s mountains give way to rolling hills and river valleys, where agriculture, winemaking, and livestock raising are practiced. Slovakia’s mountainous terrain has also influenced settlement patterns within the country.

The Carpathian Mountains, a major mountain system of central Europe, extend across much of northern and north-western Slovakia and encompass the Little Carpathians, the White Carpathians, and the Tatry, which is the highest Carpathian range. The High Tatry mountains contain the country’s highest peak, Gerlachovsk Štt, which rises to an elevation of 2655 m (8711 ft). The High Tatry also contains one of Slovakia’s largest national parks and is a popular place for skiing and hiking. Other important mountains include the Low Tatry, in central Slovakia, and the Lesser and Greater Fatra ranges, in central and western Slovakia. The Slovak Ore Mountains, in eastern Slovakia, are named for their mineral deposits

Climate
Slovakia has a continental climate, with four distinct seasons. Winters are typically cold and dry, while summers tend to be hot and humid. The average daily temperature range in Bratislava is -3 to 2 C (27 to 36 F) in January and 16 to 26 C (61 to 79 F) in July; temperatures tend to be cooler in the mountains. Bratislava receives an average of about 650 mm (about 26 in) of precipitation annually. In areas of high altitude, snow is often present for as many as 130 days each year.

Habits and Customs
When entering a Slovak dwelling the residents change their shoes in the entrance hall and offer some house slippers to the guests as well. In many households it is considered as misbehaviour, if you move in the dwelling space in shoes which are used outside.

To offer the guests a tot of slivovica (a strong, colourless alcoholic beverage primarily made of distilled fermented plum juice, (often referred to as plum brandy) or similar distilled liquor (spirits) is considered here as a demonstration of hospitality and respect and if there is not a cogent reason, it is impolite to refuse such an offer. This is especially true in the country, when the residents offer distilled liquor of own production (home made liquor).

When meeting/welcoming the acquaintances are shaking hands. Close friends or family members usually kiss once on the cheek or both cheeks and hug slightly. When introducing strangers it is polite to shake hands, in a more informal atmosphere also to give peck (fleeting kiss).

Spain & the Costa del Sol

Whilst we can help you find property in most areas of Spain and indeed many other locations in Europe, our specialty is property on the Costa del Sol from Nerja in the east over to Gibraltar in the west.

There are few areas in Europe which offer such a wide variety and it is for this reason that the Costa del Sol has become popular with second homebuyers and permanent residents who come from all over Northern Europe.

This Costa del Sol really does have something for everyone from the simplicity of a Spanish village in the country, the sophistication and style of Marbella through to glitz and glamour of Puerto Banus with its international jet set community, large boats and designer shops - The Costa del Sol has it all.

The types of home available on the Costa del Sol are as varied as the locations. We can offer village houses, holiday apartments, luxury penthouses and fabulous Villas. There really is something to suit every pocket. By buying on the Costa de Sol you are making a sound investment into an established and sophisticated market backed up by a strong and well-established infrastructure. The community also tends to be multi-lingual which is a great help if you do not speak Spanish!

For leisure pursuits the Costa de Sol is unbeatable. Whatever your requirements the area will exceed your expectations. The more obvious attractions are sun, sea, sand and golf. However boating, wind surfing, kite surfing, snow skiing (in the Sierra Nevada less than two hours drive from Malaga), horse riding, quad biking, shopping, night clubs, bars and international quality restaurants are all amongst a portfolio of attractions that the area is able to offer.

If you know the Costa del Sol you will already be sold on its virtues. If you don’t know it, now is the time to come over and have a look at the options that are available to you. We at Euro Property Spain will do everything we can to help you realise your dream in the sun.
